Humiliation, CandyLand and Pullip dolls

19 September 2007

I’ve had my eye on a pair of boots for a while now. Keep in mind, I have hippo calves and normal boots don’t fit me. I found a pair I liked at Torrid (literally the plus-size version of Hot Topic) and after getting paid yesterday, was fully ready and excited to spend $50 on the boots. I should have known better and saved myself the humiliation.

After waiting nearly 20 minutes (even tried on a Halloween costume, the wait was so long) for any one of the 3 girls working to bring me my size, I couldn’t get them zipped past my ankle. The top was in fact the size of my fat calf, but the part between the ankle and top of the calf was so thin I couldn’t zip it up. It took everything I had not to cry, it was that discouraging.

So that’s it. I don’t get knee-high boots. No Halloween costume, no boots, no nothing. I’m shit out of luck. I walked out of the store without a word and silently trekked back through the mall to my car, the whole while willing myself not to cry. Sigh.

HP was wonderful as always, when we finally got home he happily played a couple games of Candy Land with me. I’m going to make necklace pendants out of the game pieces but since that was my favorite game as a kid, I wanted to play it before drilling holes in the pieces. :)

I really want a Blythe doll, but they are so damn expensive. I’ve found something very similar for much cheaper - and even a better variety - called Pullip dolls. You can see them here. There are 3 or 4 that I’d like to have, maybe I’ll get one of them to start with and see how they are in real life. I espeicially like the first one with blue hair.

News

18 September 2007

Something happened yesterday. Something huge. Call it a baby step backwards to gain momentum before taking a giant leap forward. I’m absolutely scared to death, excited, nervous, and very, very proud all at the same time. It’s like a cornucopia of emotions all at once. The world is ours for the taking. It really is.

I love my HP. ♥ What a wonderful man.

Screenprinting

13 September 2007

I’m so going to make a full shirt-back sized print of these lyrics in collage-esque font. It’s going to rock and you’re going to be jealous. :]

“Babble, Babble, Bitch, Bitch
Rebel, Rebel, Party, Party
Sex, sex, sex, don’t forget the violence
Blah, blah, blah
Got your lovey-dovey sad and lonely
Stick your stupid slogan in
Everybody sing along
Babble, Babble, Bitch, Bitch
Rebel, Rebel, Party, Party
Sex, sex, sex, don’t forget the violence
Blah, blah, blah
Got your lovey-dovey sad and lonely
Stick your stupid slogan in
Everybody sing along”

I can’t wait. I still need to make my granparents t-shirts…. le’sigh.

My First Sewing Project

9 September 2007

First of all, read and laugh:

Okay, now that I’ve gotten that hilarity out of the way, I’m halfway through my very first skirt - including two fully functional pockets. :] It’s quirky and has definite personality, but it’s mine and I love it.

Unfortunately, after serious frustration and the help of google, we realized the machine I bought is known for it’s defective bobbin device… how nice of the lady to forget that part. Bah. I’m currently waiting for HP to get back from the store and try to find a way to fix this. The bobbin literally bounces out after a stitch or two. Very frustrating. I’d have finished my skirt by now if I didn’t have this problem. I’m thinking I’ll drop this for now and finish my scarf tonight.

Anyway, here’s a peek at what I have finished so far:

I’m going to go cut more fabric. I’m going to make a pair or armwarmers next. ♥

Craft Teaser

4 September 2007

I’ve been busy and I couldn’t be happier. After 8 hours of work I came home and started making my very first pair of earrings. 16 more pairs of earrings and a bracelete later, my fingers are sore and I have a headache from concentrating for so long. Congratulations to me - I’m no longer a jewelry newb! I’m very proud. They turned out better than I had hoped for, which is amazing with this headache. lol [For a sneak peak pic, click here.]

Well I’ve started the transition - I’m no longer pink. I bleached the front part of my hair again and of course it’s that wonderful brassy yellow I love. /sarcasm . I’m sure I’ll get used to it. I’m flat broke today and ran out of toner, so BRASSY it is! :P Thankfully tomorrow is payday and I’ll make a Sally’s run on my way home from work. The funny thing? HP loves it. Don’t ask why, it remains a mystery. :]

My back and head are killing me and the skin on my thumb is trying to jump ship. I’m going to grab some dinner and hit the sack.

Weird Google Searches

3 September 2007

Okay, I just can’t help it. I’ve gotten some pretty weird google searches from my blog, but today’s have topped the cake. I must share in my confusion… lol

#6 - “they’re always after me lucky charms” …yeah, what exactly are they searching for here?!?!

#5 - “OK i’ve overslept”…. umm… THEN WHY ARE YOU ON THE COMPUTER?? Get to work!!!

#4 - “how to make a crohn’s flare up” ..ok, the key word in this one is MAKE!!! Why would you want to MAKE a crohn’s flare-up?? If you really have Crohn’s, you do everything possible to avoid flare-ups.

#3 - “what eyes, needle and thimble have to do” …WFT?!?! I don’t even know what to say here.

#2 - “insomnia hoodies” ..umm… is there such a thing? Because seriously, I may need to get one of these. /sarcasm.

annnnd ladies and gentlemen,

#1 - “if i take 50 tylenol pm will it hurt me” - HOLY HELL! If you are thinking about taking 50 Tylenol PM, please get OFF the computer and TELL SOMEONE!!

Gah. I really enjoy that I can see exactly what brings people to my blog. The weird thing is when I c/p what they’ve typed into Google to see how far down the list I am. Most of them, I’m in the top 3. Strange.

Long Weekend

3 September 2007

This weekend has been both eventful and relaxing. Exactly what I’d hoped for in a long holiday weekend. I’m getting paid to type this as I speak. That’s wonderful. Matter of fact, HP and I are getting paid for anything and everything we choose to do today from 7:00am-3:30pm. Gotta love paid holidays!! :]

I’ve finished 4 domino necklaces. They turned out even better than I was imagining. I still need to give my coasters another coat or two of lacquer and they’ll be finished as well. I still have 6 or 7 more sets to make, but the first 4 turned out beautiful. I’ve taken a few pictures but haven’t been motivated enough to post them yet. Maybe I’ll get around to that later today. We’ve also done a lot of screenprinting, but haven’t taken pictures of those yet, either.

I’m desperately trying to master ribbing - I don’t have any plain, solid colored yarn to use, so I do a few rows and can’t tell if it’s turning out right or not because I can’t see my stitches. I have this beautiful green, tan and white yarn, but it’s such a bitch to work with that I’m sure it’s just going to sit there for years and years. That makes me sad. It would make a beautiful scarf or even armwarmers or mittens if I could just learn to knit with such bumpy yarn. *grumbles* Maybe I’ll give it another go, I’m not sure. I’m pretty frustrated. I think I have the stitches down, but when you can’t even see what you’ve done, it’s hard to reassure myself that I’m doing it right. I’ll have to consult with MB omorrow. I’m sure she’ll set me straight. :]

Okay, I’m off to convince HP we should spend another day at the river. ♥
